As the title says, I don't think there's anything better in terms of value for money. Powerful and easy to use, you still need to know a bit about configuring services. I'm very happy with it.
The only downside is that I'd recommend placing it on a laptop cooling stand, even a cheap one, to gain around ten degrees of cooling in return. An average of 48 degrees is always better than 58 =)
Blooming great NAS Firstly this exceeded my expectations. I’ll openly admit I’m a massive nerd at times and I spent ages reasearching NAS’s to replace the old WD cloud storage which is way too restrictive and limited.
Anyway, I found this amazing bit of kit, found out about unraid and the ability to run docker instances from the box and just blown away with the scope and performance of the little box and it’s so quite but sleek looking.
I’ve got this connected to my home network at the moment so it’s limited to 1Gb but the ability to upgrade this later to up to 10Gb is a massive plus. Also that being said even at 1Gb file transfer is very fast and performance is excellent.
Connecting the SD in was a breeze and once up and running it was quite easy to start storing data, setting up plex, deluge, jacket and other docker apps to help with storing and sorting files, as well as downloading any missing shows etc.
There is little to no noise, a benefit of it being a SD based NAS and no spinning disks.
All in all, this is an amazing find and if you’re serious about storage needs, wanting fast performance, want to nerd out a bit then this is for you. If you struggle with tech it may be a bit tricker to get setup and make use of all the bells and whistles but will do pretty much what you want out the box after the initial setup of the storage array
This Nas unit was beyond my expectationThis is the first Nas I have that is an all ssd nas and I have hopes that the prices of ssd and Nvme drives will come down so I can buy a few more drives.
It's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to Unraid as I feel like it doesn't always make sense but I still like it and have hopes of getting it the way I want.
The setup I have right now is that my LincStation takes care of storing photos and videos as well as documents.
I also run a couple of virtual machines on it for things like Plex and Home Assistant, which works really well.
Would I recommend this machine?
The answer is Yes!
This is based on the flexibility and price, which is very competitive compared to the competition.
The design also makes a very good impression, and it fits well under the TV.
The pulsating LED strip can be a little annoying if you have it in a place where you see it all the time, but it can be turned off just go to this address tower.local:50000 and here you can control the LED list and change the color or turn it off.
Then the fact that it is completely silent is absolutely fantastic.
And the fact that it also comes with an Unraid license makes it even more recommendable.
I use it for a private cloud and backup storage.
I also run a Minecraft server on it.
It is completely noiseless and a great improvment from my old very noisy Thecus 5200.
It is a great improvment to have an industry standard and widely supported operating system to work with.
Bought this for NAS storage in my fifth wheel. Replaced my old NAS that had spin drives and is SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL. Also do not have to worry about it ruining the disks due to movement because there are NO moving parts. Also housing my local Plex server.
